Hours of work calculator
Every price is really a number of hours you spent at work. Turn any purchase, or any habit, into time.
BudgetHelp's calculators give estimates based on what you enter. They're for education and planning, not financial, tax or investment advice. Check important decisions with a qualified professional.
Spend on purpose, not on autopilot
This isn't about never buying coffee. It's about choosing. If a $6 latte is worth fifteen minutes of your workday, enjoy it. If the streaming service you never open costs you four hours a year, that's an easy cut.
Try it on your biggest recurring costs: your car payment, your phone plan, takeout. Then put the ones you keep into your budget planner with a clear conscience.
Questions
How do I work out my after-tax hourly pay?
Take one paycheque's net pay and divide it by the hours you worked in that pay period. For example, $2,000 take-home for 75 hours over two weeks is about $26.67 an hour.
Why think about prices in hours?
Dollars are abstract. Hours of your life are not. Seeing that a purchase costs a full workday makes it easier to decide whether it's worth it to you.
