Terms and disclosures
Plain-language terms for using BudgetHelp, what our tools and coaching are and aren't, and how our referral links work.
Last updated October 28, 2026.
Education, not advice
BudgetHelp.ca provides free budgeting tools and general educational information for people in Canada. Nothing on this site, in our emails or in a coaching call is financial, investment, tax, legal, accounting or credit counselling advice, and none of it is a recommendation to buy or sell any security or financial product.
BudgetHelp is not a registered or licensed financial planner, financial advisor, investment dealer, accountant, lawyer, or credit counsellor. For advice about your specific situation, talk to a qualified, appropriately licensed professional.
Calculators
Our calculators give estimates based on the numbers you enter and the assumptions shown, such as a fixed rate of return. Real results will differ. Investment returns are not guaranteed, and investments can lose value. Contribution limits and rules can change, so confirm them with the Canada Revenue Agency. You are responsible for your own financial decisions.
Referral disclosure
Some links on BudgetHelp are referral links, including our links to Wealthsimple, Questrade and Simplii Financial. They're marked with a disclosure wherever they appear, and they carry a "sponsored" tag for search engines.
- If you open and fund an eligible account through one of these links, BudgetHelp may receive a referral bonus or other compensation.
- You may also qualify for a welcome bonus. Each company decides whether you qualify, how much the bonus is, and when it's paid, and its offers and terms can change at any time. Read the current offer terms on the company's site before you sign up.
- Using a referral link doesn't cost you anything extra.
- We mention these companies because they offer no-fee banking or low-cost investing accounts that fit what we teach. That is not a recommendation of any specific investment, and other good options exist. Compare before you choose.
- BudgetHelp isn't affiliated with these companies beyond their referral programs, and their products are their responsibility.
Budget coaching calls
- What it is. A 30-minute, one-on-one educational session by phone or video to review your budget and money habits, followed by a short written summary with suggested next steps. Price: $39.99 CAD per call.
- What it isn't. Coaching is not financial planning, investment advice, tax or legal advice, or credit counselling. We don't recommend specific investments or financial products. We'll never ask for your passwords or access to your accounts.
- Scheduling. After you pay, we'll email you within one business day to choose a time.
- Rescheduling. You can reschedule any time up to 24 hours before your call.
- Refunds. Cancel 24 hours or more before your call for a full refund. If we can't find a time that works for you within 14 days of booking, you get a full refund. Missed calls or cancellations within 24 hours aren't refundable, but we'll try to reschedule once.
- No guaranteed results. We'll do our best to help you build a plan, but what happens next depends on your choices and circumstances.
- Eligibility. You must be at least 18 to book a call.
Using the site
Please use the forms only to send genuine questions and booking information. Don't send passwords, full account numbers or government ID numbers. We may block submissions that look like spam or abuse.
Limits of responsibility
We work hard to keep the information on BudgetHelp accurate and current, but we can't guarantee it's complete or error-free. To the extent the law allows, BudgetHelp isn't responsible for losses that come from relying on the site, the calculators, or third-party sites we link to. If you paid for a coaching call, our total responsibility is limited to the amount you paid for it.
Changes and questions
We may update these terms, and we'll change the date at the top when we do. Questions? Send us a message.
